A Menu of Options for Public Food Procurement That Nourishes People, Place and Planet

Transforming the Public Plate

How can public investment be redirected to drive food system transformation that serves the environment, community health, and local livelihoods?

Transforming the Public Plate
Project overview

Diverting investment into public good

The institutions at the heart of our communities (hospitals, aged care homes, schools, childcare centres) should be places of nourishment. Yet too often, the food served within them is doing the opposite: harming health, degrading the environment, and draining wealth from the very communities they serve. Regen Melbourne is working to change that. Through contributions to the Transforming the Public Plate report, ongoing advocacy, and support for place-based demonstrations of purpose-driven procurement, we're helping to shift what ends up on the public plate, and who benefits.

Our role

Building a national coalition

Our role is to contribute to the content of a foundational report, support national advocacy efforts and work with Greater Melbourne-based demonstration sites.
