How can arts and culture be used to explore and progress new areas of scholarship around more-than-human practices of place-connection and custodianship.

The project involves a conversation with practitioners whilst in a row boat on the Birrarung. The conversations centre the river and create a space for conversations with the river by focussing on listening practices, drawing on First Nations practices of connection and listening.
This practice explores new scholarship around more than human practices of place connection and custodianship. It also reflects on the nature of recording, listening, creating, and working in partnership with the river and with river custodians and how this could become the basis for a new research partnership.
Building on a series of conversations with partners on the need for more expansive stories that centre the Birrarung, we were invited into a collaboration with the RowBoat. We supported the development of the project and participated as a part of the storytelling to share the experiences of growing a new relationship to the river via a swimmability lens.
